School Groups
The following fieldwork activities and units are currently available to school groups visiting the LCCC;
* Infants
- Bush Detectives
(Tracks, scats, & other evidence to see what animals live in the bush).
* Primary
- Bush Detectives,
- Landuse
(Looks at what humans need and how they use the land and how aboriginal people managed the land),
- Water Bugs
(Students survey Mini Lake Cowal to collect, classify, count, identify and record water bugs to determine health of the site),
- Catchments.
(What is a catchment?, our Lachlan catchment, unhealthy & healthy catchments, importance of vegetation for catchments, ways to clean up our catchment).
* Junior secondary - Yrs7&8
- Climate Change Snapshot
(Includes powerpoint presentation on the basics of climate change, students make greenhouses and record temp. changes, students also complete a personal energy audit).
* Y10 Geography
- Biodiversity Study(School Certificate Skills)
(Includes; using clinometers, basic transect for vegetation structure, species identification, climate, plant adaptations, food chains, and soil testing.
* Seniors – Preliminary & HSC
- Senior Science/ Biology Ecosystem Study (HSC).
(Includes; using clinometers, transect, quadrat and quadrat square sampling, species identification and mapping, climate, adaptations, relationships, human impacts, soil testing, OH&S issues).
All activities are conducted by LCCC staff. Visiting teachers assist with supervision and smaller group activities.
If a school or teacher has something specific in mind, staff are able to tailor visits to your requirements, provided sufficient notice is given.
Land Managers
A variety of courses and information days are held at the LCCC including:- Property Planning,
- Certificate 3 in Conservation Management,
- Pasture Cropping & No Kill Cropping, and
- Information days that cover a range of subjects.
